Alien Bob's Excellent Contributions to Slackware (Discussion)
Quote:
I say it once again: I really appreciate Alien's work, and I use on daily work his packages (I'm using Slack64-current-multilib). But once again confirm: Alien's packages aren't official just the way they aren't supported by Slackware Team. Ok, Eric is one of the team, but he shares his private work in his packages (so they are tagged as "allien"). When You use his packages on stable version of Slackware and something broke in the consequence of using this tools/libraries/whatever, so who You're going to ask about support? I know, that making third party packages is very important job for future releases, because of evolution in programming. I am ignorant, but not as much ;) Cheers ;) |

You need to know that Alien_Bob developed x86_64 concurrent with the x86_32. You really don't know a thing about the way packages, contributions or anything about the team by making poor statements as you have made. Alien_Bob maintains separate SlackBuilds for the means of isolation for development. Most packages that are finally placed into final are still in flux in one way or another. Always evolving! SlackBuilds itself is nothing more than a repository; Quote:

And in this way works OpenSource: share your work with others who, in turn, help you improve your code, remove errors, improve and add other stuff, and Your work evolves. |

This discussion should not be carried on. The topic(s) are getting varied thus drifting all over the place. <mod>If you want to discuss this then I do suggest that a separate thread should be created. I will report this and see what happens </mod> :hattip: |
Whatever You say...
You're right. This discussion is useless for this topic and also by means deviate too much from. Let's end this senseless quarrel that to do anything and so is not useful. I'm pretty sure, in a sense we both are right, but perhaps because of my poor knowledge of the language, we can not agree;) So, give me five and lets go to the bar :D (why there is no beer smilie?). |

Hi,

It's good to intelligently discuss or debate a subject. If it is a language problem then things should be ironed out so that everyone understands their positions. By abstaining, at some point this issue will arise again. Your sense & understanding is different than mine for Slackware. Partly due to the language barriers. But information for Slackware & forum support is out there for everyone to read. Alien_Bob(Eric) as a team member has made loads of contributions to Slackware & LQ community. Not just his Slackware packages but his continued openness by participating interactively with members here on LQ and via his blog. He is not the only team member who interacts here at LQ. Occasionally PV will post & I'm sure lurks to get the feel of what's going on since LQ Slackware is the Official forum. |
Thank BOB for Alien Bob (+ the rest of Pat's Little Helpers)! Amen. :)
