Adding reboot & shutdown to gnome logoff
Anyone know how to add the options for reboot and shutdown to the gnome logoff for regular users. This is a single user home machine so no security concerns at local basis. I tried googling and could not find the answer. Thanks for any help.

Fire up a terminal and type gdmsetup you can change the options there.

DropLine Again!
If you install DropLine Gnome, it will be configured with users able to not only logout of Gnome Desktop but Restart/Shutdown the system...!....
And It's a Must! (For Gnome users like me!) ;) |
But I am one of them that was getting the constant crashing of Nautilus with Dropline. I had to reinstall Slackware and stick with the base Gnome to avoid it.
I tried gdmsetup. I enabled the Enable Actions Menu which was the only one that sounded suitable. I still do not get the options appearing in my logout menu. I tried settiing my inittab to level 4 to see if I needed to start gnome from GDM but that didn't make a difference either. Is there another step or suggestion. |
shutdown option on gnome logout session
I correct this before (before I used DropLine Gnome)...
But i don't remember well what i've did... Think that it was something about the group attributed to the shutdown command... And the users must have this group added to them... Try it... Hope this is it! ;) |
I looked through /etc/group and didn't see any likely candidates. I am already listed in sys for sound purposes. There isn't a shutdown or halt group. Any suggestions of which group. Thanks.

recompile your kernel with apm; then actions will work and users other than root will be able to halt and reboot the machine.

........ or add
apm=power-off to the append line in the Slack entry in lilo.conf. and run /sbin/lilo afterwards to make the chnages take effect. |
