Talking [Fun Topic] "The Book of Slack." Let's write the Slackware Bible.

Okay, we've all scratched out some verses here and there out of humor and fun from the nothingness of the ether to promote some Slackware philosophy around. However, here's a fun idea. Let's try to actually draft some compiled works together to have some fun and good times while we wait for the next release to come along from Patrick.

Rules (just a few):

1. No profanity. Unless you're conveying a point, let's keep the foul language to a bare minimum.

2. If you promote an Apocalypse, keep it humorous.

3. Remember to keep it humorous at some level.

4. Contribute how much you want. If you start a new book, please have the courtesy to refrain from editing posts. If you end a book, use a tag in the post such as [End of The Book of ...] so others know to start a new piece. You don't need to use verses if you don't need to.

5. Use accurate Slackware history to note events. Remember also to reference the SubGenius on some level, especially The Great Holy Bob, also use Patrick the Wise, Eric the All Knowing, and Robby the Prophet, as well as any other GNU, Linux, etc. people, but do be respectful, even to people we don't like, care for, etc.

6. And lastly, above all else, have fun. This is meant for community fun, but please try, by all means to stay on topic.

I won't contribute.

My feeling is that we have already way too many religious books out there. Actually I think that only one would already be too many but well, that's just my opinion.

Eh.... I really don't think that a collaborative humor book is a good idea.

I also think it's a good idea, but I'm not really into the whole topic of the SubGenius, so my contributions would probably be lame.

Also, according to your rules I'm not allowed to be angry about Poettering - I've lost countless hours because of his bad software, he deserves it. :P

I never said it had to be perfect. It's for fun and distraction. Plus, I never said you couldn't talk about Lennart in a bad way, just be somewhat respectful and keep things satirical.

You also don't have to keep it strictly SubGenius. Just reference it as a source of inspiration when regarding Patrick, and any motivation for Slack. Plus, yes there are religious texts Kiki, but this is for fun and humor only. Think of it as creative writing. I'll start it abit to give some context...
Code:
[The Creation of Slackware]

In the beginning was Softlanding Systems, but Softlanding was in need of extensions, and
while at the classroom of enlightenment, The Great Holy Bob emparted wisdom upon Patrick
of the House of Volkerding, and did say, "Bring forth a new Linux distribution for all to use both
great and small, and keep it simple, for it shall be good." And Patrick begat his work, and in the
fullness of time, Slackware 1.0 was released, and all saw it was good, and Patrick was given
the title of Benevolent Dictator for Life.

The "In the beginning" should be a first chapter going over the chaos that existed... Then a "beacon of light" with SLS that dimmed. Then the second chapter with Pat picking up the light and giving it new life and meaning.

Here's your first chapter.

http://www.microlinux.fr/download/chapitre_1.pdf

Chapters 1 to 13 are complete, I'm waiting for Slackware 14.2 or 15.0 Release Candidate 1 to write chapters 14 to 20. Final book will count roughly 550 pages.

Cheers,

Niki

PS: it's not a WYSIWYG, it's my editor's style sheet.
