Display problem after enabling Desktop effects - Mandriva 2009
I own a Dell XPS (4GB RAM, Core 2 Duo 2GHz processor) and installed Mandriva 2009 in it. Everything seemed to be working fine until I started enabling some advanced desktop effects under System Configuration menu.
The OS now boots, but the display is plain blank. I can only see the shadows of the menu when I right click on the desktop. I'm fairly new to Linux so don't know how I can revert back those advanced desktop effects settings without the graphical display. Please help. |
Try this -- Warning you will lose any customisations doing this. --
At the login screen do: Alt & Ctrl & F1, now log in as yourself. Type: Code:
cp .kde4 .kde4old Now type: Code:
rm -r -f .kde4 Type: exit and press enter Now do: Alt & F7 Login as normal. If all is ok you can delete the .kde4old folder. |
Thanks!
The display is back after I did as you told.
The only difference was that I logged into the KDE 3.5 session at startup and modified it through the UI itself. Thanks! |
Glad to have helped. You will need to show hidden files in Dolphin to see and remove .kde4old.
