Unhappy Display problem after enabling Desktop effects - Mandriva 2009

I own a Dell XPS (4GB RAM, Core 2 Duo 2GHz processor) and installed Mandriva 2009 in it. Everything seemed to be working fine until I started enabling some advanced desktop effects under System Configuration menu.

The OS now boots, but the display is plain blank. I can only see the shadows of the menu when I right click on the desktop. I'm fairly new to Linux so don't know how I can revert back those advanced desktop effects settings without the graphical display.

Please help.

Try this -- Warning you will lose any customisations doing this. --

At the login screen do: Alt & Ctrl & F1, now log in as yourself.

Type:
Code:
cp .kde4 .kde4old
then press enter. (this makes a copy of your current .kde4 folder and renames it)

Now type:
Code:
rm -r -f .kde4
and press enter. (This will delete your current .kde4 folder)

Type: exit and press enter

Now do: Alt & F7

Login as normal. If all is ok you can delete the .kde4old folder.

Smile Thanks!

The display is back after I did as you told.

The only difference was that I logged into the KDE 3.5 session at startup and modified it through the UI itself.

Thanks!

Glad to have helped. You will need to show hidden files in Dolphin to see and remove .kde4old.
