10.1 installation problems, freeze at hardware detection
Hi,
Trying to install Mandriva 10.1 on my computer, boot from CD is ok, welcome screen is ok, but then the computer freeze during the hardware autodetect (waited for well over 15min). Went to the Mandriva hompage and read the installation instructions, this problem was mentioned and it was suggested to use "noauto" to skip the autodetect. Tried that, only problem is I only have access to USB keyboard and mouse right now, and they do not work without the autodetect... I can think of two solutions, either finding out why the computer freezes, or getting the keyboard (at least) to work with the "noauto" option, problem is, I don't know how to do either ;) Hardware: MSI K8N-NEO-Platinum, nForce3 AMD Athlon64, 3200+, S754 Corsair Value DDR3200, 2x512 MB Geforce4 Ti4600 Western Digital Raptor, SATA 74GB (system disk with WinXP installed, and 4GB free for the Mandriva installation) Other stuff (two IDE PATA drives, NEC DVDRW etc.) |
Hi,
Did you use the 64-bit version of Mandriva or just the 32-bit (standard) version of it ? I'm asking before in your specs, you mention an AMD 64 chip. Do you have any 'exotic' device plugged in when you start install ? Try to unplug everything that could be a problem, as a start. What about your two other drives ? Are they plugged when you install ? try unplugging them and start afresh. Perhaps is it a problem with your SATA drive, sometimes they are not well supported.. Hope that helps cheers |
