Mmmmmmm........the idea is good and may need to run this type of voluntary web sites. I feel that without moneytary backbone the website development is not possible. In spite of that, I am not leaning to take contribution (or donation) from members with respect to some facilities. If contribution (or donation) is received against some facilities.........it never become a contribution or donation, it becomes trading. I think we should go for advertisements which will give our site money for development and research. Moreover if we start taking money.........then the flavour of FREE will be abolished and we must loose the flavour of Linux. Because Linux and Free are the two compensatory words in the world. If Linux is one straight line of a set of two parallel lines, the other is FREE. So think once more. Do not sell something................Donations and Contribution are always welcome. Please do not hit Linux lovers sentiment.

The Contributing Member program does not bring in significant enough revenue to use it solely to run this site. Please do not think that Jeremy is asking us to pay to run the site.

And I think you have mixed up the "Free/Beer" and "Free/Speech" angle. Linux does not have to be a no-cost operation at any level. Linux lovers are always will ing to give something back to the community, whether it be in terms of cash, hardware, money or whatever. The program is simply a way for members to say "thanks" for the site. It is not compulsory.

Thank you XavierP for this clarification. This type of feedback we need from the site. I only wanted to draw attention only for that we are going to provide something special to them only who will provide this "thanks".

Any other way you would know transaction details ...

Usually Amazon is just for donations, but if you "donate" $35 and send me an email I will verify the transaction and manually upgrade your account.

Just curious, why would you list the ability to turn of ads as a contributing member benifit when you can kill them with the AdBlock extension in Firefox?

Firefox didn't exist when that functionality was offered. The extra functionality is a by-product and an added benefit of contributing, the real benefit is in helping in a small way to keep this site running.
