Have you noticed editing is always needed for the inevitable typos that weren't there when you hit the "post" button?

Yes I certainly have noticed this, and, no I don't blame the systems. I done it. Argh. I do proof-read everything. It still happens. ARGH. Hmm...? ... !!!! ::

SUGGESTIONS ::
Given that I default to use small fonts on my 17-inch at 1280x1024, to allow me to see enough at one time to be able to *think* instead of spending my entire day scrolling around & losing my -very- complex thoughts, *AND* that the quite small reply-box uses small, -proportional-, *thin* fonts, thus I can't see every single letter that well, and I AM NOT going to change my needed reso just for one or two // *ANY* website.

Bottom line is I suspect *many* users have this problem for one reason or another.

I have a suggestion or two, please...

A larger box would help in proof-reading, and might encourage some of us to _not_ try to format, or feeling like we --need-- to format, to the size of the box.

A fixed font would definitely help proofing. Also would benefit from larger box.

Could also add a reminder to proof-read before hitting 'submit'; would probably be better-obeyed with larger box.

Could also make box taller to help. *Could* also call for one size larger.

Could *possibly* use a cookie or somthing to allow user-settings, maybe including automatic spell-check when 'submit'.
Yeah, yeah, I know, but most of us are kinda busy, no? It's called 'human nature,' and you mostly lose...

THE BOTTOM LINE FOR LQ.O ::
would probably reduce server loading somewhat, be reducing fetches & puts for edits done due to typo's. Might also reduce admin/moderator time since there would be a little less to scroll through, too.

Just a couple of thoughts, guys.

No offense intended but I'm having trouble understanding what your suggestion is, due to the format of your post and the numerous sentence fragments. Are you quoting an existing post, or is this a snippet of conversation, or is it a mix of both of them?

From what I gather, it seems you are suggesting to make the spell check button larger, and perhaps to also automatically include the spell check function as part of the posting process. Is that correct, and if not, can you clarify your points? -- J.W.

I think he wants the Quick Reply box larger.

Yes, the rest is suggesting a maybe-larger Q.R.Box, and certainly one that uses Fixed Fonts, and lastly yes, maybe auto-spellcheck.

Is the consensus that the box is too small? It certainly seems more than wide enough for me in the browsers that I use (Mozilla/FF). The height is admittedly not that tall, but I don't want to eat up *too* much screen space as people already miss many of the useful links that are on the bottom of the page.

Just click on the "post reply" image, that will take you to a bigger reply box and there is an option below the box to toggle to a fixed width font.

jeremy: Netscape 7.1, usually myself, but could change.

david: I'll check that out, but 'human nature' again; just *is* easier to type [here] in the little box - checked -- OK, maybe I'll start using that; looks nice!
