Suggest changing old post color or shading to indicate they're old
How about having some sort of style change with posts that are old. Like older than a year, or 5; something like that where the posts (not the thread, but the posts on it) which are beyond a certain age, become shaded or something obvious to indicate that the posts are very old.
I've seen a number of thread resurrections and ultimately someone points out, "Hey, this originally was a very old thread." Current advice is usually not worth as much and likely the OP is no longer viewing.
Just something that occurred to me as a possible indicator beyond the date.

Thanks for the feedback. For threads that have not received any replies in 6 months we currently disable the quick reply box. If a member does click the "Post Reply button", they see this large bold red message at the top of the page, above the "Reply to Thread" area.

Please note that this thread has not been replied to in over 6 months. Please ensure your reply is still relevant and timely.
Hopefully that is more clear than different shading would be, but we're happy to listen to additional suggestions on how accidental posts to old topics can be avoided.

That message won't show after the first person resurrects the thread, whereas the change in shading between the posts in the thread could warn people the thread has been resurrected.
