Distro icon for Linux Mint
 

I really think there should be a separate distro icon for Linux Mint since it is one of the most widely used distros. When I submit a post on my Linux Mint machine, it shows up as Ubuntu, which I can understand because it is based on Ubuntu, but wouldn't it be more correct to separate the two?

I agree that icon is not always showing correcty. I see you as debian currently that is base for ubuntu.

The distro icon is determined by the useragent string of your browser. Mint does not use their own useragent string, they default to Ubuntu, so even if we would have a separate icon for Mint your system (and any other Mint system with the default useragent) would still show up as Ubuntu.

FWIW, we've had a Mint icon for some time now.

I'm using Crunchbang Linux right now. It originally showed up as a generic Linux (the penguin head), but I added "debian" to my user agent string, so now I'm showing Debian. I know that some browsers show more info than others. Iceweasel (Firefox) shows me as Debian 32-bit, Lynx shows me as a "Unix-like operating system" and Wine Internet Explorer shows me as Windows XP (probably because of Wine's compatibility mode). Looking at this page, it seems that there used to be a separate user agent string for Linux Mint in older versions of Firefox. It would be great to more accurately see what distro someone is using. I'd like to see how many people on these forums are actually using Linux Mint.

Hmmm... We should also have icons for stuff like AmigaOS, game consoles, and ChromeOS. I'm pretty sure these have unique UA strings.

That generic penguin logo drives me crazy. Without knowing which system is being used by every poster, I cannot sleep. The anxiety keeps me up all night.

Well, when on Mint I can get the mint logo on these posts. When in AntiX like I am on now. I cant get the forum to recognize this

So the Debian swirl has to do or the Penguin instead depending on my mood.

If so, how do I get it to show up instead of the Ubuntu logo. @rokytnji What user agent string are you using to get it?

I know there's one for Symbian as I've had it a few times so there may be some for other OSs.

Thanks, I'll definitely try that when I get access to my Mint machine. Why doesn't the Firefox that comes with Mint have the "Linux Mint" in the UA automatically? It seems like such a trivial thing to do.

That is a decision made by the Mint developers, so you will have to ask them.
