chat room

dunno if this has been suggested but perhaps an official #linuxquesitons IRC channel and an IRC applet such as pjirc?

Look at the similar threads on this topic for an answer to this.

Ok, I did the homework: I checked the 5 "Similar Threads" @ the bottom of this page & the 12, make that 13 -- this one just made the list :), that an LQ search on
linuxquestions "chat room"
brings up. Is this one the definitive answer?:

trickykid 11-24-2007 09:20 AM

Never gonna happen. End of story.

archtoad6 11-24-2007 10:11 AM

I wasn't asking "If?", or even "Why, not?", but rather where is (i.e. a link) the best (longest?) explanation of "Why, not?".

Just curious -- I have about 0 interest in chat. I think it's a generation gap thing.

I'm pretty sure I've commented on it before in the past. While I rarely say never, it's unlikely that you'll find a chat room at LQ. One of the main goals of LQ is to be a long lasting resource for the Linux community. A big part of that is serving as a archive of knowledge. A real time chat room, even if made searchable, just isn't really in line with our goals. With limited resources and many new features that we'd like to implement, it's simply not even on that radar.

Besides, if we had an official IRC channel some of the folks here would just wind up on Bash LOL
