There is no "best".....there are differences in features and user interface.

A practical consideration: The world of web pages still tends to revolve around Internet Explorer. Most sites now support Firefox, but there are still quite a few that perform poorly---AND there are still a few that insist on "IE only". I have had reasonable success getting people to fix Firefox issues, but I would not expect to have much luck with lesser-known browsers.

The above aside, I operate on inertia: FF works for me, and I have no motivation to change.

I have no patience with the Debian re-branding (for reasons I am unable to understand) of FF to "Iceweasel", and I have heard reports that some sites will support FF, but not Iceweasel. (See above in re trying to get people to support FF.)

Dunno what is the best browser, but this is the best question to start a flame war :)

As it seems, version > IE6 seem to adhere better to W3C standards, which means that pages written for IE display with less problems on other browsers.

Companies can no longer afford to write IE only web sites (some still do!) as penetration for other browsers reach 25-30%

That having said, Opera is my favorite. Fast, very fast, customizable, but not to the point that you have to start installing a dozen plugins before it works.

One of the greatest features is that open tabs are saved when Opera is closed. I think it is an option in FF but you have to install it. Furthermore, Opera is stable, does Flash (finally) and it is easy to set op you fonts so layout look nice and balanced.

It depends on what you need.

IE: Works only on windows. And as you've asked this question in a Linux forum I think you are mostly in Linux environment. More about IE's goods and bads can be asked St. Google.

Firefox: Very flexible. Most popular among *nix users and number 2 in windows after IE(my opinion :-)). Greatest number of all sorts of amazing plugins/addons available. Basically my choice.

Google Chrome: Still a baby. Fast but basic. Not much to configure.

Opera: hmmm Don't know much about it. Used it and found it alright. Some features are pretty innovative. Plugins/Addons alone make firefox a much better choice though.

These are more popular ones currently. See what you want your browser to do and what experience you need from it and then make a decision :-)
