What happens when you try to open .odt in Microsoft Office?
 
I'm getting tired of switching to .doc format all the time for drones.

I doubt MS office can read it, at least without some sort of plugin. I have no idea if one exists. You can always send a RTF though, so long as you don't need too many advanced features.

MS is talking about supporting the Open Document Format--but I don't think any tools are here yet.

Like many of the best things in life, good communication takes two people--each is responsible for confirming a common language. Even machines do it--just listen to 2 fax machines negotiating their comm paradigm (It's almost musical....;) )
