Unix ver of IE on linux??
 

all..(history) i my company supports IE only with our internet product.. being the local linux user i was forwarded an email about a client (linux user) that needs to use our product.. however it only supports IE.. can he use the unix ver of IE?? i have only used mozilla and never tried experimenting.. is that anyway compatible??

mozilla can do most of the things IE can do. Why is yr stuff not compatible with non IE browsers? does it have broken html and javascript?

Unfortunately you cannot compile the unix versions of IE to work on linux because they are closed source, and are compiled only for those platforms.

Perhaps you would like to try Opera. It can be set to identify as many different browsers, including mozilla, IE and Opera. Then again, so can Konqueror, which i believe can be set to identify as no browser at all!

no no no .. you may have hit it.. unfortunatelly there are parts of our software that has activex issues with non IE.. very bothersome. but unfortunatelly we are forced to follow the majority due to the licencees resistance to non IE.. i have never tried opera on linux.. that may be next.. you think that konquerer will give it a run??? i will try that later.. being the last of my breed here i havent had much time to tool around with it..

There are situation it won't help, but it's worth it to try.

Codeweavers CrossOver Product now supports MS Office and MS IE. That's where I would start experimenting... (I have to test myself if I can get Crystal Reports Object to work with this for our own IE centric Web software.)

the only problem i have with linux browsers is that i cant bloody find a plugin for quick time

IE have kind of it´s on set of rules for the standards, specificly for CSS they are pretty far out. So when Mozilla and IE looks pretty alike on the paper they are far different.

You could also try to run IE through wine ( http://www.winehq.org ) although it requires pretty much tweaking to get it work

And most webdevelopers only develope for IE (which i in some sort of way understand, when they have 95% of the market, and that will surely not change in the next couple of years. But not that i support this kind of development...)

wine's installtion process REALLY blows.
I like code reavers with what they did with the installation but they have not updated to the new version.

We should make it out weekend goals to convert family members currently using IE to Mozilla :) make that 95% go down.

Mozilla is grandma worthy, I know that much. my grandma loves it and i love her. :)

That's a good idea! I have actually been trying to make everyone I know switch to Opera, with a 0% success rate. I was hoping to show them all how much better it was than IE, but since alot of webpages are developed for IE, I lost my argument pretty quick.
