Red Hat Install Probs

I went through the install process, ok! But when I do the first boot up, it goes to 'Bringing up loopback interface' and just hangs there! I heard that it might be down to PnP OS in BIOS. Changed that but still does it.

Anybody? Help Appreciated!

Fordy, this is lacking a lot of important information. No one is going to be able to help (despite the fact that all of us would like to) until you tell us:

1. What version of Red Hat?

2. What type of Install?

3. What else is on the drive? Windows?

4. What kind of computer? Motherboard, CPU, memory

5. What boot loader are you using?

6. What research have you done on this?

While you are gathering this information, look these over:

1. The Red Hat documentation that says a loopback interface is a local IP check:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...nterfaces.html

2. The Red Hat HOWTO on configuring your loopback interface:

http://www.europe.redhat.com/documen...OWTO/x525.php3

3. The Red Hat Bugzilla bug report. Pay particular attention to comments 9, 10, 16 & 17.

http://www.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=74799

Get back to us

2)Off The CD

3)Win XP

4)Sony VAIO GR114EK (P3)

5)Grub

6)Ive searched the boards

Note: I did an interactive boot and disabled network and PCMIA and it booted. I then disabled them both from boot. But i would prefer to use them.

Many Thanks

What did you learn from the threads I put in my last post? As I mentioned in the other one, the third one sure looks like your problem.

Hi Fordy,

Sorry, I am behind you in this matter, so I come here to ask you for help.

This is my first time trying to install Red Hat Linux 8.0; I kept getting the error message "the Red Hat Linux CD was not found in your CD-ROM drive" after I restarted my PC and followed some installation instructions using the boot diskette (extracted from boot.img using "rawrite2.exe"). I downloaded Red Hat Linux 8 (+ README) from ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/redhat/redh....0/en/os/i386/

Please email me the answer if you have solutions + time. My email address is nipgor@hotmail.com

Thank you very much in advance.
