qmail problem

Hi Dear all

i have installed and configured Qmail Server along with pop3d package as per instructions given in "Life with Qmail" the first problem is that when qmail starts up, qmail-smtpd service takes a long time to start i mean if i use qmailctl stat command, when all the servicies are on around 40-50 sec then smtpd starts counting from 1 sec.

The second problem when i am using Evaluation for mailing it does not authenticate my users and says that could not get proper greeting from pop server,, i am not able to send or receive messeges.

By processing netstat -a | grep smtp (or pop) i find that both the services are working.

any suggessions...

Regards.

Check your setup against http://www.qmailrocks.org
This is what I used to setup qmail when I was first learning it & found it to be excellent. I first tried Life with Qmail but found qmailrocks to be much easier to follow. In particular check your /var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtpd/run against qmailrocks' one.

If you restart qmail with qmailctl restart does qmail-smtpd still take longer than the others to start?

As for "Evaluation" (which I think you really mean "Evolution") not being able to get a proper greeting from your pop server, try the "mail" command on the same box that qmail is running on & see if that gets thru to a users mail box. Do this by :
Code:

mail user@your.mail.server
Some text
.

The dot ends the text input to the body of the email, then when it asks "Cc:" just hit enter then have a look in the users .Maildir directory & see if the message is there. If it is then the problem is probably with Evolution.

Have you tried sending & receiving mail from a different PC running windows?

well thanks a lot fuzzyash.. qmailrocks really helps..

and one more thing, if you know gmail has the functionality to append the messeges which are comming in reply of the same mail, where others like yahoo doesn`t have, so what if i want to implement the same thing on my server,.???
