Open Office Installation
I am running Debian Amd64 in Gnome. I downloaded Open Office, but cannot seem to get it working. It is version 1.1.5. Anyone help???
Thx- John |
Where did you get the openoffice.org package - or are you trying to build the source? Which version of Debian are you running (Woody, Sarge, Sid, etc)?

I am running whichever versian of Debian AMD 64 can run on. As for Open Office, I got it online because I could not seem to get it off my synaptic package manager. It is sitting in my downloads file as "OOo_1.1.5_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz"
I had no problem doing this on my other computer, which runs mandrake, but for some reason am having this problem on this. Perhaps it is because I use KDE on that one??? Thanks thus far for the help-John |
Debian always releases for AMD 64 and other architectures (as far as I know, though I've only used Woody and Sarge). The openoffice.org package should be in the Debian repositories. Can you post the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list? You should be able to add the correct repository to this file, which will enable you to install openoffice.org using apt-get or synaptic.

I shall try that tonight, and will get back to you.

HEy,
Don't know if you figured this out or gave up, but here goes. Go to this link and follow the instructions for creating a 32-bit chroot environment in an amd64 operating system. (The reason is that OpenOffice will not yet compile for 64-bit) https://alioth.debian.org/docman/vie....html#id257962 Then you can just apt-get openoffice.org in your chroot and create links to your OOo apps. Simple as pie. |
