No Sound in Pidgin

I am having no luck getting sound to work when using Pidgin. I have sound in all of my other applications, but nothing in Pidgin. I have checked all of the settings on Pidgin itself as well as on my system. Nothing is muted or disabled that i can see. I turned the volume all the way up thinking that may be the issue, but no luck there. I am have tried using ALSA as well as OSS with no change. Has anyone had the same problem? I have read a ton of other posts, but nothing in any of those seemed to change anything for me.

I am using Pidgin (v) 2.2.1

Thanks in advance for any info

Using v2.4.0 here, so the menus might not be the same.

Did you check Tools > Mute Sounds (or Ctrl+S)

Then Tools > Preferences (or Ctrl+P) > Sounds > Sound Method

Mine was defaulted to Console beep, which I changed to Command and use aplay.
Then you also must check the Sound events you desire and give them a sound file,
and then Test.

Maybe you already did that, but it's not clear from your post.

I had already checked the mute setting and even tried using a command, but not the same one you listed. I used the command you gave and it worked like a charm. It seems to have a little static, but i have yet to get the sound quality right in any of my other apps either. Thanks a ton!
