Need help with W2K and either slack or mandrake
 

OK, here is my hardware:

DVD-ROM
CD-burner 16X
2 HD's--20 gig 7200rpm with W2K, 40 gig 5400rpm with 20 for FAT32 and other 20 for linux.

I have DL'd mandrake 8.1, redhat 7.2, slackware 8, freebsd 4.4. I want to use slackware to get experience with installing soft without rpm. I have all my windows stuff backed up and have full-install of W2K. But I want to keep W2K on my 7200rpm 20 gig for performance and gaming. Plus I do not want to re-install W2K--I got it just right for everything, tweaked, running smooth. I already have the 40 gig parted with the first 20 gigs sector under the 1024 lilo limit. I want to keep the other 20 gigs for mp3's and pics etc. So what I need to know is how I go about settig up linux on the 20 gig partition and dual-boot W2K. I know there is a way for W2K bootloader to load up linux so how I go about it? BTW, I already have tried to install redhat but my floppy drive is broke and cant get into linux. I installed the grub in the /boot not the mbr. I have tried installing lilo and grub on the mbr but i get the L0L0L0L0L0L0L crap or with grub I get grub command but dont know how to get it to boot. But I want to use slack. Also BTW, I have a program that can see linux partitions in explorer if that might help.

As for installing to the second drive:

1. You don't need to worry about the 1024 cylinder limitation; it's not an issue in the present version of lilo, and it was never a problem with grub.

2. The Linux installation process will allow you to choose which drive to use, and how you want it partitioned. I'd suggest doing a custom/expert install as it gives you greater flexibility in terms of your partition scheme. I've also heard horror stories from people who chose the automatic partitioning option, only to have it walk all over their exist Windows installation.
