MPlayer cannot find audio codec

I'm trying to get Mplayer to work with Suse8.2.
Video works fine but no sound.
I get the message "Cannot find codec audio format 0x2000"
I've installed latest Win32 codecs and codecs from the Mplayer site but the problem still persists.
Any suggestions to get the sound working are appreciated.

Have you recompiled mplayer after you installed the codecs cause you need to do that.

No I haven't and I'm not quite sure how to do it. I did try and disinstall/reinstall from the Suse CD-ROM.

The problem is that mplayer needs to be packaged with the codec you're trying to use then. If it doesn't work like this it's not compiled using it and you won't be able to use the codec. So I think you'll need to head over to the mplayer site, grab the sources and follow their documentation on installing it.
