Linux chat tool for internal network
Hello,
We are a non-profit running Fedora Core on LTSP in our office. Is there software for chatting on our internal network? This will help us save a lot on bandwidth costs by sending intra-office messages through chat instead of email. Thanks, Ramdak |
Jabber is used by a number of organisations and businesses (the one I work for included) and works well as an internal/external chat client/server.
And welcome to LQ :D |
Thank you, that was quick!

Just one question, though.
Would we have to install Jabber on every node or just on the server? Thanks, Ramdak |
You could always use talk.
|
You would need one Jabber server (configured to either only talk internally or internally/externally) and the Jabber client to be installed on each workstation. The Jabber clients can be branded with your organisation's logo/name, which is part of the reason that it is becoming so popular in the corporate world.
