Kernel unable to find the modules?
 
Hi All
I just recompiled my kernel and it works great. However, at boot time it complains about not finding specific modules.
During the compile process, I made sure to run the following wo commands (in order) to set up the modules, yet for some reason the kernel complains. here are the 2 commands I ran:

make modules
make modules_install

Note that due to this, three services failed to initialize, mainly

emu10k-snd-card
SuSE-Firewall
SuSE-Apache-Firewall

and I suspect the CDRecorder doesn't wrk because of "missing" modules

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Again, the kernel DOES boot, and lili is configured correctly

well do they exist? did you select them properly when you chose the setup for the new kernel?

Or did you compile them into your kernel and they are still listed in modules.conf?

If so, go there and comment them out.

well, I'm not sure what that All means. I did a make xconfig, selected the options, then nohupmake bzImage &
then macke clean then make dep
When all was done I did make modulesand makemodules_install.
So I don't know it SHOULD have installed the necessary modules shoudln't it?

Well, yes it SHOULD have. But if you compiled your sound card into the kernel instead of as module, then it won't be module anymore. modules.conf would still have it listed and would still try to 'invoke' it at boot. So I guess the question is, did you compile them as mod's or directly into kernel?
What changes did you make when you recompiled the kernel?

A.) Yes, I copiesd it into /bot and updated the lilo.conf. The Kernel DOES boot after all.
B.)I think I had a mix of bothmodules and directly in the kernel. Besides, emu10k-snd-0 is NOT the only thing that fails

What is that for a version? 7.3? I think 7.3 still uses ipchains for the Suse firewall (they got different ones).

LOL crashmeister. I really don't care about the firwewall. My feeling is whatever causes the problem for emu10k1-snd-card-0 is responsible for the failes firewall stuff.:)

Why you put the errormessage there when you don't care about it??If you mean to imply that the Suse firewall isn't a part of the kernel you are of course right. I really doubt that the sound module interferes with the firewall. Now that is part of the kernel.
I forgot - just in case: If you make the firewall beeb when it detects the cracker then it might be the sound.

No, you misunderstood me. I put the firewall thing to demonstrate that there is a problem with modules. As for sound the sound IS working fine. I can play MP3s just fine for instance, but yet for some reason it complains about the emu10k thing at boot time.

Thats all? I get five or six kernelmodule errors plus assorted other errors at startup. Someting about missing alsadrivers and not found sysmop - whatever that's supposed to be.Hell with it!

Do this. type

dmesg

in a console, and then look through the messages that appear for the exact error that you are getting. Then post it here, so someone can know exactly what the error is.
