KDE : 100% cpu load !
Hi !
I have the following problem : my CPU load is often near 100%. The "top" command says : 11:57:07 up 2:01, 3 users, load average: 1.69, 2.11, 2.07 53 processes: 51 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped CPU states: 72.4% user 27.5% system 0.0% nice 0.0% iowait 0.0% idle Mem: 513876k av, 484696k used, 29180k free, 0k shrd, 53044k buff 234788k active, 214716k inactive Swap: 1662716k av, 0k used, 1662716k free 325788k cached PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME CPU COMMAND 849 cath 15 0 25320 14M 23516 S 41.5 2.8 34:26 0 kdeinit 825 cath 15 0 25968 13M 24824 S 28.4 2.7 25:17 0 kdeinit 762 root 25 0 152M 21M 134M R 28.0 4.2 30:50 0 X 1880 cath 15 0 59160 38M 37476 S 0.9 7.5 0:34 0 mozilla-bin 1993 cath 17 0 1920 996 1768 R 0.3 0.1 0:00 0 top 856 cath 15 0 28060 17M 25700 S 0.1 3.5 0:05 0 kdeinit 1 root 16 0 480 240 456 S 0.0 0.0 0:05 0 init 2 root 34 19 0 0 0 SWN 0.0 0.0 0:00 0 ksoftirqd/0 3 root 5 -10 0 0 0 SW< 0.0 0.0 0:00 0 events/0 4 root 5 -10 0 0 0 SW< 0.0 0.0 0:00 0 kblockd/0 6 root 5 -10 0 0 0 SW< 0.0 0.0 0:00 0 pdflush 5 root 15 0 0 0 0 SW 0.0 0.0 0:00 0 khubd and so on .... I have been intrigued by the fact that there are 2 "kdeinit" but actually it turns out that the first one is kwin, and the second one is kded. My system is very usable even with such a cpu load, due to a ck-patched 2.6.4 kernel (i DO confirm that a good 2.6 can really rock !). Nevertheless it's not as responsive as it can be, so your help is welcome. Any advice will be appreciated ! My config : Dell 510m laptop, Pentium M, i855GME. Software : linux 2.6.4, kde 3.2.0, slackware current Thanks in advance ! Ben |
Mine often at 100% when its doing something. Just assumed its normall, xp was this same until I killed it.

problem solved by upgrading to kde 3.2.1
a normal cpu load under linux+kde is 1 or 2 % even with several apps launched. |
