Is there any real messenger ?

Is there any real messenger that support voice and video chat ? Because gaim don't support both and kopete don't support voice .

Matir 01-21-2007 08:48 AM

If you need voice, I recommend a VoIP program like Skype or Ekiga.

randomthings 01-21-2007 08:54 AM

So you guys don't talk to your friends how use msn or yahoo ??????????
Skype don't support video chat !!! and i am not going to ask lots of my friend to install another strange software to talk to me ...
What is the wrong linux in this matter ??? It seems that there is no real messenger at all .

Matir 01-21-2007 09:09 AM

I personally use gaim for all my messaging needs, on both Windows and Linux.

I don't use it. I just type real fast :D . Amsn has webcam support and a rather easy installer. I'm not sure if it supports audio chatting.

[edit]As the name suggests, aMSN is meant for use on the msn network[/edit]

Rechosen 01-21-2007 10:47 AM

aMSN did support audio chat for a while using some strange framework I never heard of, then they temporarely disabled the audio chat function, but now it should work again (without that strange framework :) ). aMSN indeed only works for the MSN network and not the Yahoo one. But ehm... Yahoo does provide a linux version of their messenger, shouldn't that one work?

randomthings 01-21-2007 10:50 AM

So where is that linux version of yahoo ? .

Yes thank you i heard of searching and the only thing i found is the windows version .
What a system linux is . If there is no good messenger ( There is no simple program like it ) so i guess it will be hell to find other good software for other stuff .
In this case it is impossiple to move to linux or using it .

IMHO, gaim is far superior to the service-provided clients. It has no spyware and advertising in it, for example. I've been using linux almost exclusively for several years and have no problems with anything other than commercial games.

randomthings 01-21-2007 11:32 AM

I don't mind the ads and think that there is no spyware in yahoo messenger or msn am i right ?
There is no ads in gaim because it is not a good software .. We are in 2007 and they devlopping a messenger that support only text . Did they heard about cam ?

Well, clicking on that link leads to a web page labeled "UNIX version - Yahoo Messenger". I guess finding Linux software is really going to be hell for you ...

I'm kindof glad it doesn't support cam. It saves me from having to block users that try to open voice/cam connections to me. I'm sure they're going to add cam support eventually, but it's probably not a high priority for them.

My suggestion to you: develop a cam plugin for gaim.

Also... are you implying that having ads makes software good? That makes no sense.
