my local university decided that public servers on the university network but outside its firewalls need to run certain commercial monitoring software. in particular these two were mentioned :

-1- Rapid7 Vulnerability Management

-2- Cisco Endpoint Monitoring : AMP for Endpoints Connector

before i start soiling my Slackware servers (v15) i was wondering if anybody in this forum has made her/his experience(s) with such products ?

there is nothing on SlackBuilds for these two products which i anyway didn't expect to find there. but both products seem to come also as Debian binaries which means i could be optimistic to get them operational on my slack15 servers.

or what do folks think about this ?

I can see the University's logic: Public servers outside firewalls will attract the unwelcome attention of the transitory 'evil genius' student types with little responsibility and a great desire to prove themselves.

You need source code. The .deb is a poor second best in matters of security.
