Question GRUB -driving me grubby,,

:Hello Fellow Linux Heads -- here I go again with another story/ inquiry !!!!

Situation is on my old Win Xp pro. & Linux box

Original Setup is Sda (20gb)(suse linux 9.2)
Sdb (20gb) (win XP) _______ it boots up with integral Suse Bootloader ( most Likely GruB ----followed instructions from Linux Tutorials )

Proposed "new" setup Sda(160gb) (Puppy linux 5.2.8)
Sdb (Win XP -UNtouched hardDrive as Above setup) ____________________How do I configure GRUB on this "new" setup without disturbing what is on Hard-drives???

I want to save my old XP Drive(20gb) as same , but put grub in new Hard Drive with puppy install.

Any ideas ??? adios , chili

According to this page Puppy uses the old (original) grub. In which case you'll need to add the entry for the XP yourself. Hundreds of how-to's on the web, but if I was you I'd save a copy of /boot/grub/menu.lst onto a USB drive - you'll need to add a stanza like that has for XP to the new system after it's up and running.

Thanks - but when I disconnect my SDa drive & I try to Boot Windows alone - I get the dreaded "NTLDR" message - this is terrorizing .

incidentally I get a message from some old Program Called BOOTSTAR when I Booted up -may have been On a "450mb Photobackup drive " i had as /dev/sdc-- had photos & some old apps/programs on it - I reconnected everything the Way it was - excepting that "photo drive" -boots up fine with Suse 9.2 grub menu-gui.

or with XP
you can use any of the 12 year old xp / 98 guides to add puppy's legacy grub to the windows bootloader
you do have a 3.5 in floppy drive on this ?

and use any of the 10+ year old xp dual boot with linux guides for using "dd" to make a copy of the boot sector for xp to use ,and call from the xp "boot.ini"

XP dose need to be on the first partition of the first drive and really WANTS it's own bootloader on the MBR
xp was a pain in the "bleep" for that

From Linux (with everything plugged in), go here and do as it says. Post the RESULTS.txt so we can see the full boot setup.
