Enabling plugins in VLC?

Currently running OpenMandriva Lx with VLC 2.1.4, installed from package. VLC will play .mp4 video but says there is no suitable decoder module for .mp4a audio. I have libfaad installed but I see no way to enable in in VLC. Also, cannot find the vlc common or faad plugin anywhere. Anyone have any ideas on how to enable this?

Hi:

The current version of VLC is 2.2.1-
Installing that version is most likely your best bet for good performance and functionality.

That way you won't have to worry with plugins or having to enable anything.

Found an easier fix. I just uninstalled VLC and use MPlayer full time now. I like it better anyways.

I've always used MPlayer, this was my first time with VLC. I only tried it because with my previous distro MPlayer flat out refused to play DVD's and VLC did with this distro. Then I discovered MPlayer did too, so that was that.

Got it-

VLC can be a little tricky to get working after a fresh install.
I had audio but no video.
I had to go to Tools> Preferences> Video and set the output to X11 video output (xbc)from that point on VLC has worked like a charm for me.

Glad MPlayer is working for you.

Cheers & Happy Thanksgiving:-

As a MPlayer user you may already be aware of SMPlayer?

http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/

I've been a VLC fan for many years, but lately have been leaning towards MPlayer, simply because of the SMPlayer frontend.
