Aol
I have aol at the moment (shoot me now!) I can get 9.0 to install but it cannot connect what can be done to fix that. I get a message that aol can't connect and wants to install some files it gives no name of them just that it needs them. I let it use the cd to do it but no change.
seriously i can't get online yet everything else is setup
A) are you using wine or something to install AOL? (do they even have a version for linux)
B) I have heard stuff on pengAOL, never used it but should do what you want http://www.peng.apinc.org/eng/ |
I'll check that out and yes i used wine with the aol install program.
I wish my family would go to some other provider aol is so stupid. |
Well I am gonna go ahead and guess that aol and wine dont mix... try out pengAOL and if it works out, post back as my friend who uses aol (and windows) needs some more excuses from me to swtich...
um gcc is not compiling the pengaol i found any other compiler you suggest? i got this version since i still have dialup (kill me now) http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/LinuxTutorialAOL.html
a) whats the error you get from gcc
b) what distro are you running |
i type ./configure or ./recompile and i can no command found
the os i have is Suse 9.1
you try just ./Install ?
i have the download that you need to compile first
whats the the listing of the files your downloaded? (after you extracted them)
go to the link above i posted that is the download
OK well i just downloaded peng1.05.tar.gz, extracted it, and ran ./recompile which was fine (started to go through some stuff which i then canceled). If you are getting an error like no command found when you run ./recompile that either means you downloaded something else, are not in the correct directory to run that script, (or maybe somethign else bizzare)
verify that when you run ./recompile you are in the correct directory (the one that contains the file recompile) other than that, i dunno what to tell you |
i downloaded from the link something odd must have happened
I don't know how but the download skipped some files the zip is onlt 36k and the download is suppose to be 319k |
I got it to compile but i can't use it still
Well I dont use pengAOL personally, so I dont know what to tell you... where did you get stuck, did you follow that tutorial
it compiled it's self in the unzipped folder and is not going were it needs
Hello anyone home linux newbie here needign help.
I have it and it works like a charm. Although i'm puzzled, the instructions claimed there was a Setup file with a gui Interface. Alas there was none and I have to run it from terminal, which is disapointing. The XCounter thats packaged with it works well to monitor the connection speed.
I have has the exact same problem
I have had the exact same problem i nearly got it to work but never did... i was expecting to be able to use the gui interface but it is nowhere to be seen. i dont no how to run the terminal so im stuck using the windows partition as i have no net on the suse 9.1 i just forgot about the suse partitition... so close to the escape...maybe when i go to collage there be another isp avalible.
If you download one of the version labeled packages the GUI doesn't seem to be included. The 0a01 package does, on the sourceforge page this is listed above the QTkylix.tar.gz Unfortunitely I am unable to get this included GUI to function.

Workaround
Here's a trick I've used to connect to AOL without having to use their software (tested in windows using Dial-Up Networking).
Write down the access number you use to connect to AOL in Windows. Boot into Linux and try putting that number into your preferred modem dialing program (I use KPPP). Voila! AOL on Linux (kind-of). Hope that helps. --Dane |
Doesn't work, if it did it wouldn't be such a big deal.
