Man, this forum/thread got old, fast...

At the risk of getting sharp objects thrown at me for posting BSD screenshots (), I present my "frankencomputer"'s FreeBSD setup, with Xfce 4.8:

Clean
File manager, Terminal, etc.
Trying to build an SDL program (...and saying FFFFUUUU in the most convoluted way ever)

I know it's really not that much to look at, but I did customize the GTK theme to have a more "BSD" feel (i.e. red everywhere )...

This machine is mostly for my mad (computer) science experiments anyway...somehow I doubt I'll keep FreeBSD on here for long. Mostly I just wanted to see what it was like.

Now now, no becoming bitter just because the Slackware fanboys' thread has more posts than yours. LOL! (Thought I'd help your cause & post another screenshot here rather than in my own.) Plus, their generality, as it's not a specific DE, is cheating. That's why your screenshots belong in this thread, not one for FreeBSD, though I also suspect selfish motives.

In fairness *defends his idea*, 1000s of posts in the mega-threads didn't happen overnight. Actually, this sub-forum's post rate thus far is slightly better than theirs. Allow it a few years...

Okay, considering my Flickr caption, either we think alike (parenthetically) or your post is mocking me. Observing your writing style, though, I'd suspect the former. Regardless, don't give me reason to come down there and smack you around. LOL!

BTW, what's wrong w/ FreeBSD?

Nothing really, but I just thought it would be a little out of place to be posting BSD screenies on a Linux forum.

Installed Linux with KDE. But decided to give XFCE a shot. So installed it next to KDE.

Linux Mint 12 with XFCE 4.8 on my laptop

Full Size

Original if you're interested

Encountered a few bugs compared to KDE. Such as Firefox crashing XFCE to the login screen and StarCraft not running correctly in Wine. While both programs run perfectly fine in KDE.

In the Dock I've placed the programs which I use on a daily basis. Including Newsleecher. Runs happily through Wine. The Linux alternatives to this program I find severely lacking or crashing all the time.

Yakuake 2.9.8 running on XFCE 4.8 running on Sabayon 8 running on an old Centrino Duo laptop. Wallpaper is stock Sabayon because I'm lazy like that.

I'm not a big fan of gtk apps, I prefer Qt, but I do like XFCE. I'm interested enough in Razor to have installed it, but it's still kind of buggy right now.

Puppy Linux X-Slacko 232, by rg66.

Mick Amadio's 'classic' Slacko 570 with the addition of XFCE.

My interpretation:-

Flashy graphics are for the weak! I skinned my laptop's Xfce with a CDE/Windows 95 style look. Nice and clean and crisp just like 1990s before interfaces started to get Fisher-Price fake plastic textures (or worse, flat design):

Os-Catalina and Mine-Yosemite are nice icon themes for XFCE.
