to anyone interested in web based images and links to them from LQ
I like www.ripway.com as is no ads on your user screen. Its still has drawbacks tho. eg http://h1.ripway.com/aus9/gfx/cat.jpg ...no ads. but it also allows normal files such as .rpm .tar etc which is something that LQ may not want the responsibiliy to do. I know LQ links to iso images but they are links not hosting. 2) Some image hosters need you to login every so often....ripway is once a month....and if you do not...your account can be cancelled....especially if they need the diskspace. 3) I am aware there had been some kind of discussion to allow limited wiki hosting of images....I am not suggesting the idea should be considered, just letting anyone know that wiki(s) could be improved with embedded images. So if there are moves afoot in that area...I think it would benefit newbies....as a mere male...I like images more than having to read the manual. 4) From a negative type point of view....there are good reasons why online host images should be deleted....my puny brain can think of few a) the distro (application etc) is out-of-date so ppl should not be looking at how it USED to be b) someone has a better howto...better wiki...etc so you (or I) should accept reality and move on c) The post is so old....and in a larger sub-forum.....no-one is going to search thru 50 pages of results to get to mine or yours....so if you are using a free host...it would be polite to not force them to maintain it. cheerio |
Happy Birthday
Very happy to see forums like this as it is hard for us newbies. I had heard of linux quite some time ago and if it wasn't for my frustrations with windows and expressing i would not have attracted the linux mates I have now.

happy birthday LQ
Hope you stay with us for many more :p
Linuxquestions (and Distrowatch) are the two more precious sites for me to look for news, tips, tricks and general help regarding the linux world - all the things I know now about linux mostly came from this site and their valuable contributors (and friends). Thanks to all for helping those like me that want to use linux and became free :D |

There havent been 10 suggestions yet !!!!
Atleast no good ones except the 'flamewars forum'. Guess Jeremy will have to pick a few suggestions twice. P.S --> Oh yeah, also goes to show how good this site really is. |

I am not trying to push imageshace.us, but as I've noted, that is the one image hosting service I have experience with. (Even though not much experience!) Here is what they say about deleting files: Quote:

marking threads as solved/unsolved
Kudos for LQ! It's the best and almost-only Linux site I regularly use, aside from ubuntuforums.org in a distant second place.
Serioulsy guys, great site and great job! Keep up like that. Now, as suggestions I can't think of anything more usefull than this one that was previoulsy posted and I second it. Quote:

sorry for writing this
Hi all,
I am not happy with this site service. I sent a thread to know how to configure WiFi connectivity. but no one replied me. sorry folks. i quit myself from this site. And i will tell all of my friend to quit their membership from this site. If there is no help so why we are here. Thanks, saidul |
saidul, FWIW looking at your thread you give almost no indication of what the actual problem is or what steps you've taken to fix the issue. While we try to answer every question that's posted at LQ, keep in mind that the site is 100% volunteer, so we can't guarantee you an answer.

Dear Saidul.
I only want to add one more thing for Jeremy's reply: before you start a new thread, please search the forums first. There are already tons of threads where wifi connectivity issues were discussed. Search them, and if you still can't find a solution, you can start a thread. Please remember that only those problems can be solved where enough information is given, so please provide as many information as possible. One more thing. If one of your problems weren't solved it doesn't mean that the whole forum is bad, and you must quit. The "service" here as you call, is volunteer. Nobody is paid for giving you answers, so you can't demand quick solutions from others. |
Happy belated Birthday! Without all the help I have received here over the years, I doubt I would now be using Linux as my primary desktop. Thank you to everyone, and I hope I have managed to help some people as I have been helped.
