new Feature request.
I love this forum. It has helped me a lot Jeremy.
I'm going to test for my Linux+ certification next month. There are three things I've done to prepare for it. One is RTFM, or read the fine manual LOL. The second is roll up my sleeves and open a terminal and get on it. The third thing I attribute to the coming of my first communion so to speak, is going through articles and tutorials in LQ. They are I've found to be technically accurate, and relevant to modern technocracies. I do have one request for a feature. That is for a live chat client scripted into the page so that user can see who's logged in, busy, unavailable, or invisible users can be ignored if they wish. We would be able to click their username or avatar, and chat with them while they are on the page. Doesn't this sound cool? I'd love to ask and answer questions of other users while posting in here or reading articles and posts. |
That's similar to the request for an IRC channel. One of our strengths is the moderation (not to blow my own trumpet or anything) and the fact that it keeps the flames to a minimum. Also we prefer to keep all discussion on the forum so that the maximum number of people can be helped by the information held here. By going to a chat client we would lose both the moderation and the retention of information.

I did think of another suggestion.
How about a time limit on replying to old threads? I've seen it a few times and actually been guilty of it myself. For instance. Someone replies to a thread that was last replied to 3+ years ago. The someone ALWAYS replies with.. DUDE THAT THREAD IS 3 YEARS OLD. WTF DID YOU BRING IT BACK!>!>!!!11111 So lock threads for reply after a certain time frame? |
For old threads, the quick reply box is removed and it's noted that you're replying to an old thread. We have no plan to completely lock old threads.

P.S. Does that mean we're getting a Flame Wars forum? :D |
Thanks Jeremy!
I just want you know that I'm coming to USA very soon and then I hope I will be able to contribute to LQ with some donation.LQ deserves it. |
congrats
Dear All,
congrats Thanks for your help. I am very happy to see your success. All the best and keep it up. |
Whoa. And here I have been browsing LQ and not even noticing the change. Thanks Jeremy, I appreciate it. Carry on LQ :D.

Good Day.
I'm a new Linux user... and i was wondering if anyone can help me with my iBurst pcmcia modem, i need drivers and how to install them can anyone help? |
Thanks Jeremy - I noticed the change earlier, and have been telling everyone :-)
kmogoshane, you should probably ask in a new thread in the hardware section - you are more likely to get a good answer there, rather then hijacking this thread (which is considered not polite :-)... People tend to watch for new threads without answers, in the sections they are familiar with and with good titles (be specific in the title) http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...x-hardware-18/ and hit the "New Thread" button at the top... I hope you get a good answer, as I have not had success with similar devices in the past, but things get support fairly quickly. |

Welcome to LQ! This thread really isn' the right place to be asking technical questions. For this question you might want to start a new thread in the hardware forum or perhaps the newbie forum. (To see all of the forums available, click on the Forums link at the top of this page.) But before you start a new thread I suggest you Google on the terms: iBurst pcmcia modem linux. I noticed there are numerous matches including a howto for Ubuntu edgy. If searching on those terms doesn't help you then please feel free to start your own thread in the appropriate forum. One more tip: When asking for help it is a good idea to let us know what distro you are using (such as Ubuntu 8.04, Debian etch, Fedora 9, etc). Good luck. EDIT: Oops, I hadn't noticed that BugZRevengE had already addressed this. That will teach me to just skim! |
