Advertising Policy at LinuxQuestions.org
 

As I've said many times before, it's the members that make LinuxQuestions.org what it is. The time and dedication that many members put in is significant. As a thank you, I'd like to announce we're testing a new advertising policy here at LQ. First, We've removed some ads for all logged in members who have at least one post. Depending on your screen resolution, you'll see no ads above the scroll and only two ads on most pages. For members with over 500 posts, you'll see nearly no ads at all. This is our way of thanking you for the time and effort you put into contributing to the site. It's critical to me that LQ remain sustainable, so I can't guarantee that this policy will last forever, but I can say I'll do my best to keep ads at a minimum.

Well, i will just have to post more to my fellow *nixers. This is only however, another drop in the bucket why Linuxquestions.org is the FIRST place I go when a problem occurs with my system.

I knew there was something different about LQ, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it! Without the ads I have a smoother and quicker browsing experience. Having said that, I'd rather have the ads than no LQ :)

very true, much better both than neither. but if add's can be kept down then thats great. Thanks for everyone who contributes to this site, its still the best resource i've ever found.

Yes, posting more is good, but we all must be sure not to post anything useless to just increase the number of our own posts. I hope LQ won't be filled with thrash posts because of this new ad policy.

I agree with that. Actually I don't have any problems with text only ads, since they don't flicker, don't really increase the page load time. They can be neglected quite easily.

This actually isn't something we're going to actively promote, so I don't think that's going to be an issue. As you post more you'll simply see less ads.

We'll never promote junk posts (and don't forget that General does not increment your post count). We don't plan to actively promote the ad policy.

that's right.. even if most of the times members are members only to join some features reserved of the forum, that's the way 'cause they do not write so frequently, i think..
