Ubuntu & ALSA and Asus

So I have Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy)AMD 64bit and an Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard.

I'm running into problems with the sound. I can't get it to run but 1 program at a time with sound...sure they run, but only the first program has sound.

I'm trying to play MP3s on XMMS and talk on TeamSpeak. I've put XMMS on ALSA and TeamSpeak on OSS...but XMMS tells me something is blocking it from playing and that the card might not be configured.

What can I do?

Ubuntu 5.10 64bit AMD
2.6.12-10-amd64-generic
onboard nForce 4 sound chipset

Hi Snipersnest
I realise that this post is quite old and you have probley solved this by now but this might be usefull for someone else running in to the same situation.

I had the same problem when i set up ubuntu on my Asus A8N-SLI so i had to set up a dmix plugin for ALSA and now it works fine i used this guide but there are a lot around just try googleing dmix plugin

wow thank you very much! I never got a reply on 3 boards I posted on.. so needless to say I never got it working. I reverted back to my CT4760 SB Live card but it won't work in my Asus board for some strange reason. It either locks the computer up during boot or simply doesn't work even though the drivers get installed...

But thanks for the onboard help!
