sytstem not turn off - shutdown does not work - hangs : Every time
hello dear comunity
just installed Ubuntu 15.10 on my new HP Notebook. But i recognized that the shutdown-process does not work at all. The notebook does not shut down properly. In other words - i cannot turn off the sytem .... it freezes all. by the way; this also happened with - openSuse Leap 42.1 - openSuse tumbleweed - with kernel 4.4.2.1 only with OpenSuse 13.2 it worked well?! why is this so - does this have to do with the different Kernel-Versions? Love to hear from you regards |

http://askubuntu.com/questions/12584...r-off-computer http://askubuntu.com/questions/62013...-lubuntu-15-04 Did you try to look this up? And again, as you've been told many, MANY times in the past, you need to provide actual details. Saying "HP Notebook" tells us nothing. What model, with what hardware on board? There are noted nVidia problems with ACPI, but we have no way of knowing which you have. And when are you going to go back and post updates/solutions as you promised, in all of these threads???? http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...4/#post5500086 |

On shutdown, the OS will show a blank screen for about 2 mins and then shutdown. I re-booted and looked at the messages file to see what it was doing for those 2 mins: Code:
cat /var/log/messages The shutdown problem only happens intermittently though. |

The fans still run and the screen is still on, etc. I have to hold down the power button in order to complety shut down. this is exactly what i encounter - 100 % the answer who had others found very helpful is the following: Quote:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ok-4175563341/ ...and didn't do yet, apparently. You were handed the instructions, because apparently you couldn't look them up yourself. Then, you never posted back in that thread at all. Quote:

And no, you won't "tell you all the findings", anymore than you have done in all those other threads where you said things like "I will come back and post my findings". See the list posted before, where you haven't done this. |
Tbone;
Deal with a thing while it is still nothing; keep a thing in order before disaster sets in. A quote from Lao Tzu hits your comments. didnt you notice: The comments of others were found to be helpful. Why - did you ever ask this yourself...!? It does not help that other postings were helpful - they are both clear, structured and liberally sprinkled with examples and ideas. This only accentuates the contrast with this exhibit..There is no lack of substance here, but also no shape, no argument and no goal. See the other comments - they are helpful, supportive - you only try to be harsh... Some ideas regarding the issue: i have to install linux in Legacy Mode - UEFI seems to make trouble guess that i have to add the kernelparameter "clocksource=acpi_pm" and the following Linux mit dem Parameter "acpi=noirq |

And again, why do you ignore what you're told/asked?? Going to go back and "post your findings" in all your other threads, as you've repeatedly said you would? Why did you ask about updating your BIOS two months ago, repeatedly asking for "steps and links", and when you're handed them, not use them? And again, you JUST NOW say you're using UEFI...did you follow the UEFI instructions from Ubuntu? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI |
