If you still have trouble try following John's install instructions in post #24.

no working terminal ??????
still

use a torrent client and dl the 3.1 gig torrent
that will AUTO check that all the little bits are THERE
i am using the
"kali-linux-2.0-amd64.iso"

log in as the only user "root"
no not make a NON default user

the install process DOSE NOT EVEN have you make a non root user ( like most distros)

in the gnome3 side bar on the left under iceweasel icon is the terminal
-- not all threads allow clickable thumbnails so
the boot screen under the A and kali is a gear icon click it and the options menu pops up ( the icon is at the upper left corner
http://imgbox.com/vw7ew2QT

log in AS ROOT!!! the user you set up during install
the terminal icon is under the mouse in the image
http://imgbox.com/XZUXZUQF

terminal opens -- as root user

Hi

I got it working but with a weird solution.
I was always using the standard install and this time used the GUI install and terminal works. A big thanks to Randicus Draco Albus,@JohnVV,Yancek,ztzoracat.

Now I can continue my course and start to use kali

Kind Regards
ShenLun

No disrespect intended to anyone here ....

.... but what sort of educational course would recommend that it's students INSTALL Kali ??

Why would ANYONE want to install it , as opposed to running it live off a USB or DVD ?

It boggles the mind !!!

The simple fact that this thread is in the " Linux-Newbie " forum should set alarm bells ringing.

For myself , I would only ever allow Kali to be used Live or in a VM , by students or novices .

It's no coincidence that one of their iso downloads is a complete package for VMWare

With the default user being "root" it is the smart and safe option IMO , but

.... " different strokes ..... " etc, etc.

Just my two cents worth .....
