Music player of your choice
 

Hello folks !
I was just curious about different music players and which is peoples favorite .There is Audacious,amarok,banshee etc and etc.So which one's your favorite and why .Please Do share with me.

In the early days of my linux adventures, I used XMMS player. Today, I use mplayer for playing media files.

I have tested quite a few music applications out and find that Amarok is the winner for its overall functionality. One impressive feature is that imported my entire Windows-stored music collection in minutes and categorized them perfectly. Other applications took hours to do the same and did a worse job...

VLC, because it plays everything and is cross-platform. I used to use XMMS, mostly because I could put my favorite Winamp skins on it (somewhere around here I still have a copy of Skinamp).

I have no interest in playlists or catalogs or any other such stuff. I can organize what I want to hear quite nicely on my own, thank you very much:). Plus, all my really good music is on vinyl.

I use Clementine almost exclusively, even on Windows. I think it's one of the very few that allows you to retrieve and use album covers. :)

Hey frank do you remember or ever tried the XMMS Dancing Space Ghost plugin?

The images you created dance to the beat of the music. I'm not an artist, so I made simple stick figures in various positions and it dance to the music. It was cool and funny.

Audacious is a good one. It has playlists feature. Supports many audio file formats.

VLC is undoubtedly the best thing around.It can play any piece of music or video you throw at it.And wait Is winamp available in linux without Wine ?And by the way, vinyl's pretty cool.

Audacious is also my favorite.Honestly I have tried only rythimic box and Audacious.And thanks for your response.

The main feature I like about Amarok is actually the current playlist. No other app so far has a good one. I want to just single or multi select files and put them in the current list and then for that list to be there when I next turn my machine on. Amarok does this, all other apps seems to have strange behaviour which is why I tried the others first and went for Amarok.

I guess it depends on what features are important. Libraries never appealed as I have a simple folder structure that works well, but having had the library just appear in Amarok, I find it fairly useful and it pulls in all sorts of related content like album artwork, lyrics and artist info/history.

What about Banshee !

I was wondering that nobody mentioned Banshee or DeadBeef. I just recently tried.They are pretty cool.

I used to love Amarok but ditched it a few years back when wither it or it and KDE went through a major version change (I don't recall exactly) and it seemed to lose a lot of functionality.
Does Amarok still allow you to pick a track and queue it in a random playlist still? That, to me, was the killer feature -- being able to listen on random then, if a song or songs came to mind, being able to play the song[s] next then return to a random playlist.
Currently using MPD with various clients, mainly ncmpcpp, and it allows a random list to be interrupted but only by. One track at a time.
I agree that for playing single files, or lists of them, VLC is great as it seems to be able to play everything.

You are quite right.And Amarok is also a bit heavy for an music player.Although I have not tried it on Linux, but I have used it on Win****.And yes VLC rocks !
