Mouse, keyboard and visuals not working while trying to install Ubuntu

Hi, i am currently trying to dual boot install Ubuntu alongside Windows 10 on my PC but running into a few problems.

First off as i boot from my install disk (which seems to be a GRUB boot screen) and click the install using my keyboard, the screen goes black and evidently turns off while my PC is still making noise from the CD spinning. I was able to fix the black screen by adding a few commands to the installation launch. These commands were "nomodeset" and "nolapic" after the "quiet splash". This seemed to give me a fix only to run straight into another problem.

Now my screen will load up the Ubuntu loading screen for installing but slowly the visuals all start to break and it will return to a black screen with only dots in the middle of the screen. I was able to wait it out until it loaded up the installation settings. Once here all looked fine and dandy until i tried to use both my mouse and keyboard. They were both off and unresponsive (i have LEDs in both of them and they were also off) so i had no way of going through the installation settings.

Any help to try and fix my problem is appreciated.

To test a few of the things myself, i installed Ubuntu on my laptop (HP Notebook 15-ay167sa) the normal way i was trying on my PC and it worked perfect. I then plugged the keyboard and mouse in to test them, both of which were working fine. So I'm wondering if it may be some sort of hardware compatibility with my PC.

For anyone that wants these,

Nvidia GTX 970
ASUS M5A78L-M LX3 motherboard

Hi,

Welcome to LQ.

The black screen problem is probably due to the graphic card. You can

- remove the graphic card
- install Ubuntu using the motherboard integrated graphics
- then install the graphic card
- boot into text mode with quiet splash and nomodeset
- and finally install the driver for the card.

Concerning the mouse, that thing probably needs a driver as well. All I have to say is, do you any other mouse, just to get over with the install. After that, you can plug the other mouse and install a driver for it.

Sorry, I'll say the same thing for the keyboard.

Apart that these issues, you have an awesome machine. ;-)
