Konsole tab title is PWD, Gnome Terminal tab title includes hostname...how to change?
I've Google'd about 15 different solutions. Note I do not want to change how Konsole displays its tabs in the bottom panel, just GTerm.
Help please. Carver (PS: Isn't it refreshing that I haven't come begging for help with ANOTHER bash script?) |

Didn't see it.
Maybe I'm missing something. I didn't see anything about the titlebar/panel "marker" for gnome-terminal (nor any mention of gnome-terminal at all) in that thread. It was all about changing console prompt strings, disabling color in terminal windows, and clearing the history when the last terminal window was closed.
I should explain that I often use Konsole and gnome-terminal at the same time, because I find it easier to have one pointed at one or two specific local folders (I haven't, and likely won't, set up SMB/CIFS for sharing, or anything else remote-host-oriented), and the other elsewhere. From time to time I fool myself into thinking it saves on the number of bash shells spawned, though I know it doesn't. With the two emulators having different "rules" for how to set what's shown on the titlebar, I (all too often) click on Gterm when I mean to click on Konsole and vice versa. And while it's somewhat off-topic, if there's a terminal emulator that does the same as Konsole with its tab titles, and doesn't by default sit up in the right-hand corner of the screen, I'd like to know about it. A link to such an animal would be much appreciated. Carver PS: Found one - Eterm |
What about opening MC as another term, using Ctrl-O to turn off its normal view if you don't want to see it?

regardless of which terminal you use. also, did you look in your favorite terminal emulator's preferences (i just checked on gnome2, it's definitely there, i should guess also on gnome3)? Quote:
