Konsole tab title is PWD, Gnome Terminal tab title includes hostname...how to change?

I've Google'd about 15 different solutions. Note I do not want to change how Konsole displays its tabs in the bottom panel, just GTerm.

Help please.

Carver
(PS: Isn't it refreshing that I haven't come begging for help with ANOTHER bash script?)

Didn't see it.

Maybe I'm missing something. I didn't see anything about the titlebar/panel "marker" for gnome-terminal (nor any mention of gnome-terminal at all) in that thread. It was all about changing console prompt strings, disabling color in terminal windows, and clearing the history when the last terminal window was closed.

I should explain that I often use Konsole and gnome-terminal at the same time, because I find it easier to have one pointed at one or two specific local folders (I haven't, and likely won't, set up SMB/CIFS for sharing, or anything else remote-host-oriented), and the other elsewhere. From time to time I fool myself into thinking it saves on the number of bash shells spawned, though I know it doesn't. With the two emulators having different "rules" for how to set what's shown on the titlebar, I (all too often) click on Gterm when I mean to click on Konsole and vice versa.

And while it's somewhat off-topic, if there's a terminal emulator that does the same as Konsole with its tab titles, and doesn't by default sit up in the right-hand corner of the screen, I'd like to know about it. A link to such an animal would be much appreciated.

Carver
PS: Found one - Eterm

What about opening MC as another term, using Ctrl-O to turn off its normal view if you don't want to see it?

you need to understand that the terminal title is often set via PROMPT_COMMAND.
regardless of which terminal you use.
also, did you look in your favorite terminal emulator's preferences (i just checked on gnome2, it's definitely there, i should guess also on gnome3)?

sure, outdated software to the rescue... because none of the actively developed maybe 3 dozen terminal emulators can do what you want?
