help with SuSe 8.2
 

I installed suse by downloading the whole tree and running it from my hardisk. Everything installed OK, but I'm having trouble configuring my sound and internet connection.

I have a cable modem connected to my puter through a realtek rtl1839. While yast2 recognizes it and says it configures it ok and dhcp selected, it just doesn't work. I try to run ifdown eth0 and it works, but whenI try to bring it back up with ifup etho it can't find an ip and says it's backgrounding. I've tried removing and reinstalling the device in yast2 bbut no matter how many times I try it it won't work, nothing.

As for my sound, it at least works...though very poorly. it plays system sounds like the various test sounds, but they're all stuttered. like when you should hear a nice test tune I just get ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba.....in that kind of stuttering way. It eventually finishes the sound, but it's way longer than it should be, and it sounds awful. My sound card is a true card....pci creative labs sound blaster ensonique.

Both my sound and network card work in every distro I've ever tried. Ican't figure out wats wrong for the life of me....

Any tips apreciated.
