Google Chrome sound stopped working

Hello. This issue happened yesterday. I have been using xmms, and noticed a curious phenomena which was that I could not use xmms and google chrome to play sound at the same time. So when I needed to, I would stop xmms and play, for example, a youtube video in google chrome which worked fine. However, yesterday, I stopped xmms and google chrome no longer played sound. I really had no idea how to troubleshoot this. I have not restarted my computer (every other program still has sound). I did restart google chrome and X a few times. I also tried to use 'alsactl restore/init' without success. Which I guess makes sense because it's not the sound card as far as I can tell, just google chrome.

To make a long story short, I don't know how to troubleshoot this. Can someone tell me which configuration files or which commands I should check? I have checked 'dmesg | tail' it had nothing on this issue.

right a few suggestions but I don't use slackware

1) how did you install chrome?
2) can you download the latest and install it via tools mentioned in this link?
http://docs.slackware.com/howtos:sla...lling_software

3) when you have the latest chrome open it and open a new tab and post the output to

Code:

about:plugins (or) chrome://plugins/
In particular is your flash version 11.9.900.170 and NOT disabled

another way to check is
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

4) in terms of non-chrome sound.....just one test of sound should be enough
I assume you can play sound outside chrome or is sound now not working for all?

I installed chrome with some script to turn the *.deb into something that could be built on slackware. I don't know all the ins and outs unfortunately.

As for plugins, all are enabled (flash included).

And yes, sound works with everything except chrome.

**Edit: As posted above, even other browsers (firefox) work fine, eg. have sound.

yes but I also asked

In particular is your flash version 11.9.900.170 ?

post yours pls

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

2) leaping ahead, assuming you have truly got the most recent stable chrome
---open a terminal and run the command

Code:

google-chrome-stable
chrome should start, minimise it and grab the full output of the terminal stuff
--you may have an error showing with luck
and post it pls

3) now does chrome have no sound for all sites or just youtube?

post a link to any site you are having trouble with.

I will show you a streaming radio site to test

http://www.usliveradio.com/
click on the those showing the F (short for flashplayer)
----I am geo blocked as aussie
