Explain how "Restore" works in Back in Time?

Hey. I'm using Back in Time and it's just great. My destination has been a usb thumb drive and whenever I want to see something from the past, I just go to the thumb drive and can find it. But (in Back in Time) when I select a particular "snapshot" and then click on "Restore" it gives six different options. Can anyone explain what those options are for? Thanks.

I can't answer your question, but I did a little searching around.

This may help: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu...empty-marker=1

Thanks Frank. That's an interesting link. You know, I wonder if I'm making too much of this (The old 'curiosity killed the cat.') since BIT does exactly what I want it to. I just figured, 'I must be missing something.' Appreciate it.

Hi Gregg,

do you mean this six options?
Attachment 20734

Well, I thought they are self explaining. But good to know. I'll add ToolTips for them in future.

So, first option 'Restore' will just restore the selected file or folder from the selected snapshot to it's original destination.

Second option 'Restore to ...' will restore the selected file or folder from the selected snapshot to a different location. It will ask you for the new destination.

Third and fourth option will do the same as first and second but instead of the selected file it will restore the parent folder. They are mostly useful to restore your whole system with '/' as it is hard to select '/' without this options.

Fifth option 'Restore and delete new files' will do the same as first option but it will delete files that have not been there when taking the snapshot. So you get back to exact same state as your files where during creating that snapshot.

Sixth option 'Restore /path/to and delete new files' will do the same as fifth option but again with the parent folder instead of selected file.

Just amazing, Germar! (Yes, I meant those six options.) I never knew BIT was so versatile. Thanks very much for the explanation. I went through and tested some of the options. Yeah, just amazing. Thanks for replying and thanks for this great program!
