Dual Boot Problem - Fedora 6... Help

Hi

I have posted previously (can't find it!) as I had problems installing fedora 6 core on a new HD for a dual boot system. Thanks for the advice as I have sorted the BIOS problem I had by setting the HD on the primary IDE as a slave drive.

However!... The Fedora GUI completed the intall on my new drive and rebooted. It defaults to XP now not giving me the option to choose OS. I have used the BIOS Boot menu and when I boot from the XP HD it works fine, but if I choose my Linux HD it says operating system failure.

If I install with the fedora DVD in I get the Boot/ command an options to install.

Incidentally the new HD no longer shows on XP "My Computer" - I presume this is as I have let fedora format and partition the new drive on install so Windows will not see it???

I am very green with this and don't know the commands I need for booting to Linux or how to set my PC as dual boot, or where to enter them.

Can anyone help? I have seen GRUB mentioned for configuring dual boot but this was not mentioned during install and I but dont have a clue what this is or how to use it.

Many Thanks for all your help so far !.... Phil

If you can't find something, just click "My Posts" on the right side of the page.

the link below will take you to an article on booting.

When you installed Fedora, it should have given you some options on where to install the bootloader. Any idea what you selected?

Is your Fedora install CD a "Live CD"--If so, you can boot with that and install GRUB from there. Please confirm that you can boot the CD, and see your Linux drive from there. Then we can give you the specific commands.

The easier solution might be to reinstall Fedora. If you are taking the approach of picking the drive int he BIOS, then be sure to tell the Fedora installer to put the bootloader in the MBR of what it will see as drive #1.
