Configuring Sound w/Tecra 8000 and SUSE

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop with SUSE 9.0. I'm having problems configuring the sound card. According to SUSE's website, I need to enter the following information in /etc/modules.conf :

alias char-major-14 opl3sa2
pre-install opl3sa2 modprobe "-k" "ad1848"
post-install opl3sa2 modprobe "-k" "opl3"
options opl3sa2 io=0x370 mss_io=0x530 mpu_io=0x330 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0
options opl3 io=0x388

This information came from: portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2000/05/laptop_daten_toshiba_tecra-8000.html

I logged in as root and entered this information in /etc/modules.conf and commented out the following lines:

alias char-major-14 off
alias sound off
alias midi off

After doing this, but my sound still does not work. Is there something else I need to do?

Thank you,
Todd

if after rebooting sound does not work, you may want to look into some alsa drivers for your sound card

what is the name of your sound card?

Tecra 8000 sound

My Tecra 8000 with Red Hat 9 did not recognize the sound card either.

the answer is a small app sndconfig

run sndconfig as root and configure the card as a SoundBlaster 16.

The utility has a test function so you can try different settings.

A check of my PC running SuSE 9 confirms that sndconfig exists on SuSE also

dont even try the built in Winmodem
