Samba and Windows 98
Hi,
I have uncovered a problem here. I am configuring a samba server for my dad's research group. I have the samba service started on the RH9 computer and have an account configured to test with. The share works fine with windows xp, but when I try to access it with windows 98, by typing in \\[ipaddress]\username, it says that it cannot find it. I would appreciate any help someone can give, I know this is more of a windows questions, but since it is dealing with a linux service, I thought I would ask. -Derek;) |
What happens if you just try to access "\\ip.add.re.ss\" - does it work? If not, what error do you get.

can you ping the IP address from the 1st 98 Client?

Hmm, are the Windows 98 Boxes on the same Subnet as the samba server? Also, is the samba server in a different Workgroup?
I really can't think of any other reason for it not to work, aside from possible dodgey network cards\cables\switches\routers\hubs. |
I'm sure I can ping the ipaddress. I can't see the server's individual workgroup, so is that why?
