Welcome to LQ.
Can you post the output of this on linux: route -n And this on Win98: ipconfig /all route print |
I was never able to get a crossover cable network to work either in linux and that's with two linux boxes. And I tried damn near everything. So if someone knows the secret, I'd be interested as well. I finally broke down and bought a linksys router firewall for $40, primarily for sharing my cable internet connection. Added bonus, networking with dhcp through the router was simplicity itself. Your trying to network a windows and linux box so you'll need samba. I don't think that's possible with a crossover cable. But hey, I couldn't get two linux boxes to work with a crossover cable. :D

It will work with a crossover.
I dont; kno why I missed it before but you wwill need to use private IP addresses on the crossover. Try: Win98: 192.168.1.5 Linux: 192.168.1.6 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 |
i will try but, i don't mentioned that i have that before (win98 was: 192.168.1.1 and linux 192.168.1.2) or must be 5 and 6? i'll try thanx
|
doesn't need to be 5 or 6 but most people use .1 for routers etc so I tend to start machine IPs a bit higher.
|
no need to configure broadcast and other things? where can be the problem? is it with my network card? can be problem there? thnx
|
and can i have second computer in my linux as a default gateway for internet sharing? thnx
|
Yes set the gateway as your second computer if you want to share the net connection.
Broadcast will be: 192.168.1.255 |
ok the problem was in bios ACPI has to be disabled and everything is ok
