laptop without cd-rom drive. net install needed. slackware NFS issues.
hi everybody,
I'm getting trouble with my old thinkpad 600. I need a laptop for net surfing at university, but I have no $$ to buy new one. Then I've tried some solutions: 1. one year ago, debian floppy net install, it does not recognize pcmcia eth card 2. one year ago, NetBSD 2.1, it roxxx, detects my pcmcia eth card (tulip module i think) and downloads all the packages from ftp... but I was/I am to noob for bsd I think. 3. yesterday, slackware 9.1 ftp method install: all settings for ftp ok, but file transfert does not starts and it tells me that I can reboot pc for use it :| 4. today, slackware 11.0: I built an NFS server on my windows machine on the local network. When I specify address and folder of my win machine, it seems to be ok, return to the menu but it lose all information that I input before (keyboard layout, target drive) so It enters in a loop and I get fucked :D please tell me a solution... my thinkpad 600: pentium 1 233mmx 32mb of ram pc66 3,4, gb hd pcmcia eth card pcmcia wireless card chip rt2600 (need a distro that can use this card) The goal is have a machine in textual mode / graphic mode with fluxbox and dillo for net surf. thanx |
Hi,
#1, USB stick install. #2. Debian floppy install, make sure you select right device for eth0. Happy Penguins! |
I not used USB before, because I have no pendrives. I bought new one yesterday, now I'm using Damn small linux :D
