What interface hardware do you recommend to connect 12 temperature sensors long term up to two years to a ubuntu PC.

I'm leaning towards arduino as low cost will be crucial.

What kind of temperature sensors? Some are USB-based and would need only a hub and not a dedicated SBC.

By mentioning the Arduino I assume you want to build this yourself?

What type of temperature measurements? Surface or air? wet or dry?

Yes this is a self build project... recording air temperature -15 to 40degC sensors considered so far K type, DS18B20, NTC, DHT11 and 21.... nothing out of the question at the moment... really looking for ideas to simply record 12 sensors over a long period......

By K type I assume you mean thermocouple. This would probably be your highest cost. You should buy the logger. They will have their own software but it is typically windows only but should be able to export the data to a compatible format.

I like the DS18B20 and would consider using a Raspberry Pi as the data logger. You can purchase a 1Wire USB adapter which is supported or you can write a program to do the GPIO bit banging.

I am unfamiliar with other sensors but using digital devices would simplify the hardware a bit but make the software more difficult to write. Another option is the TMP36. They are analog output devices and therefore require a ADC. Depending on your environment and wire length could be noisier then a digital device.

There are more exotic devices but would not be low cost.
