Radeon X600, unknown chip?

After a lot of trouble with Ati's proprietary drivers I was able to build the fglrx module, thanks to this forum. The trouble is, the module can't recognize my Radeon X600 Pro PCI Express chip. WM operations are slow, not to mention everything that's OpenGL related. It's like running X with a standard VESA driver.

Ati's control panel displays some OpenGL related info, and everything seems to be in order except for the chip, which is unknown. So what to do? What have I done wrong?

(I hope this hasn't been answered before. If it has, I apologize for this unnecessary thread and the lack of my searching skills.)

Thanks!

Don't worry about the ATI Control Panel, mine says the same thing.
Whats important is the xorg.log file or xfree86.log file, depending on which you are using. (/var/log/xxxxx.log)
If you do a search in the file for "chipset" and continue through the file you should see a line that says something like "(--) CHIPSET FOUND RADEON X600 (RV380 xxxx) FOUND". I believe the X600 chipset is either RV380 or R380 depending on your card.
Next is getting DRM and DRI to work properly. As for that, good luck, I haven't got mine working yet, but I'm not giving up. :study: :)
