hi, sorry i haven't been available for the last couple of days, had some family in from out of town. my sinceriest apologies. since your email and your printing situation isn't working, i'm wondering if you network is functioning properly. please post as suggested, the output from the cupsd.conf, as welll as the output from
ifconfig -a route -n good luck. |
Hi,
Cupsd.conf is 831 lines how do I copy it. I noticed that most of the writing is in blue. These are mainly instructions. I have copied out the bits written in white which seem to me to be default settings. I dont know if this will help LogLevel info TempDir /var/spool/cups/tmp Port 631 Browsing On BrowseDeny All BrowseOrder Deny,Allow Location /> Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 Allow From 192.168.0.16 </Location> <Location /admin> AuthType Basic AuthClass System Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 </Location> BrowseInterval 0 BrowseInterval 0 #BrowsePoll 192.168.0.1:631 BrowsePoll 192.168.0.1:9000 Sorry, I know that this may not mean much, but if I know how to copy all 831 lines maybe that will help. smbclient -L name of w2k machine return? |
Hi Peacedog, the W2K machine is called "Dialup".
I will do the printer when I get back in this evening as well the resuslt of smbclient -l Regards |
Hello PEACEDOG :) DigiGato here,
It may be OT, but a Allow From 192.168.0.* in the conf may help, in any rate, a wise advise to reinstall the printer is good. Are you able to browse the machine where the printer is hooked up through your SMB Explorer/MS Explorer? is it in the correct workgroup/domain? Have you tried to add it to your client machines by creating a "IP Printer port" (in Win)? Sorry for all those questions in a row, May you have a great day guys, -DigiGato |
Hi peacedog,
The W2K machine is called "Dialup" becos it is my dialup server to the \\\internet. Ihave removed it form the Mandrake Machine, and guest what? It cannot find it anymore. When I do a hardware/printer installation using the Mandrake control panel, it says "no network printer found" The contents of smbclient -L gives the following [root@localhost root]# smbclient -L dialup Password: session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE [root@localhost root]# smbclient -L dialup Password: Anonymous login successful Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED Anonymous login successful Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] Server Comment --------- ------- AMINA DIALUP Workgroup Master --------- ------- WORKGROUP DIALUP [root@localhost root]# HI DIgiGato, Yes I can see Dialup in workgroup in SMB Explorer. Yes the printer is in the right workgroup called "WORKGROUP" How to create an "IP Printer Port" in WINS? Regards |
three things does your logged in user have a valid account on the windows box? does the windows box run a firewall? have you tried rebooting the windows machine and restarting services on the linux box?
|
Hi Peacedog,
Its the firewall on the W2K machine. The firewall itself is all messed up. Gonna have to rebuild it and then try again. Not going to make any changes on the Mandrake PC so that I can test it out once I've rebuilt the W2K PC. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks all for your support. Once this is sorted, the next thing I am loking at doing is to move the files from a W2K Server unto a Mandrake server and make the share available to all clients of the Mandrake Server. Any ideas on where I can read up on the how to?. Regards |
you can read for days about samba here
